zummerzet66 The more recent albums have been good (though I'm still to be convinced by Lost Folk), but this is still Gaz's best album. Cornish Fishing Town is superb (loved the duet with Nick at South Petherton a few years ago), but Knights of the Round Table is another level again - my absolute favourite Gaz song, though not one for live shows, sadly. Favorite track: The Knights Of The Round Table.

Ian Mitchell Love this record. A regular soundtrack to my mornings. Favorite track: The Ballad Of Elizabeth Duke.

Jamie Barker-Starr This album is fantastic Gaz, would 100% recommend. Favorite track: Solo Acoustic Guy.
Aleutia Shannon

Aleutia Shannon Another great album from Gaz Brookfield. 12 great songs which so how Gaz has grown as a musician & song writer. The album has some different instrumentation on it than on his previous albums. This makes True & Fast sound bigger than any of the albums that have gone before it. True & Fast has upbeat songs, sad songs, emotional songs & plain fun songs like Mud & Rainbows (featuring Billy Shinbone on banjo). For fans of Gaz's previous albums this is a must have Favorite track: The Knights Of The Round Table.

ssssssch And again.. hard to set my 'favorite track'. Indeed Gaz got one of my alltime-favorite musicians. Love the way he's telling stories with his songs and his play.
Hardly recommended! Favorite track: Cornish Fishing Town.

Godless Man 03:31
No I'm not going to lie to you, I'm terrified of death I can't imagaine anything worse than taking my last breath But in '99 I lost my faith and I don't want it back But as the years roll on I can't ignore a certain fact Where does a godless man go when he prays? To whom does he direct his prayers and what words should he say? Where does a godless man go when he dies? Purgatory, Valhallah, Hell or Heaven? If that's true I'll be surprised Those stories that were taught to me when I was just a child Provided me with comfort, yeah, but only for a while Admitedly those stories teach good values to a kid But stories are just stories, there's a whole lot more to this Where does a godless man go when he prays? To whom does he direct his prayers and what words should he say? Where does a godless man go when he dies? Purgatory, Valhallah, Hell or Heaven? Can we not just comprimise? So books get read and questions asked, I s'pose that's natural I want a mast to pin my colours to, well don't we all? But I've found nothing satisfies my curiosity But no cats we harmed during the search for my philosophy Where does a godless man go when he prays? To whom does he direct his prayers and what words should he say? Where does a godless man go when he dies? Purgatory, Valhallah, Hell or Heaven? All of which are bold faced... And what have I found? Found that fundamentalism is the curse of all religions And with my feet on the ground, I'll keep an open mind And hope that one day I will find my way, and until that day I'll listen to Bill Hicks Matter is just energy condensed to slow vibrations Can't be created or destroyed, just changed by certain transformations So if conciousness is energy, and therefore infinite in nature There is no need for fear, son, you've already met your maker Where does a godless man go when he prays? To whom does he direct his prayers and what words should he say? Where does a godless man go when he dies? Purgatory, Valhallah, Hell or Heaven? I don't know Where does a godless man go when he prays? To whom does he direct his prayers and what words should he say? Where does a godless man go when he dies? The same place as the rest of us, recycled by the universe And on that day he'll need to pray no more

Oh I'm sick and tired of renting, I want a place to call my own I've got a roof over my head but now I want a home I don't need a mansion, two up, two down would do We'd make our house a home we'd love, me, the dog and you I just want our Sailor Jerry's Kitchen And our front room that's exactly like a pub A chesterfield sofa and a drinks globe by the fire Oh I don't want much but that would be enough Oh I'm sick and tired of renting, it's money down the drain I pay my landlords mortgage, so he's the one who gains See I quite like my landlord, but I like his house even more And I'd make him an offer if I wasn't so damn poor I just want our Sailor Jerry's Kitchen And our front room that's exactly like a pub A chesterfield sofa and a drinks globe by the fire Oh I don't want much but that would be enough An Englishman's home is his castle, but I am not the king No I am not the lord and master yet of anything But that won't last forever, no one day I'll be crowned One day I will get to put my roots down in the grounds Mortgage is French for "death grip", or so I once believed But 30 years of debt is not so daunting now to me And I'd have my 10% by now, but stuff gets in the way So I'll stay on the road until I've earned enough to pay Pay for our Sailor Jerry's Kitchen And our front room that's exactly like a pub A chesterfield sofa and a drinks globe by the fire Oh I don't want much but I'd quite like... Enough to buy our Sailor Jerry's Kitchen And our front room that's exactly like an old English pub A festival back garden with a fire pit and a stage Oh I don't want much but that would be enough No I don't want much but that would be enough

The doctor sat me down and said "I'm sorry... But It's really not the very best of news, You'll have to cut down on the sweeties, you've got type two diabetes Worst of all you'll have to cut down on the booze". Well as you know I'm partial to a tipple You can imagine that this news came as a blow But I was not prepared for the next thing that he said "It's your favourte drink's the one that gots to go" He said, "you can't drink cider anymore" It's like the rug pulled out from under me and my head hit the floor No I can't drink coder now it's iot's true Oh what is a west country boy to do? He said, "For some resaon your pancreas stopped working, And I'm sorry but we do not know the cause Now your blood sugar's always highm faulty insulin is why And that's the reason you've been feeling in the wars" So now I have to watch my sugar intake And it's just typical, my favourite drink's the worst I don't mind not eating chocolate, I could give up quite a lot but WHat the hell do I drink now to quench my thirst? No I can't drink cider anymore I didn't know how good I had it when I had it all before No I can't drink cider now it's true Oh what is west country boy to do Compared to some I know I've got it easy Life's unfair, but it's nobody's fault So from cider I'll abstain and try my best not to complain And after all there is always single malt But I can't drink cider anymore Wine is out as well I think but whisky's fine I'm sure No I can't drink cider now it's true Oh what is a west country boy to do No I can't drink cider anymore Shares in Thatchers Gold will soon be crashin thought the floor No I can't drink cider now it's true Oh what is a west country boy to do

Just a Ride 04:23
Everyone's dying of something It's madness to think that we're not But it's just a ride none of us will survive So make the most of the time you have got Everyone's dying of something Few have their eye on the prize We're all the same, yeah we all play this game None of us will escpase with our lives Everyone's dying of something The only certain thing that I know You can plead you can shout, You can try and hold out But one day we all have to go Everyone's dying of something You can pretend it's not true But sure as night follows day, there is not escape That old reaper is coming for you Everyone's dying of something Not many know how to live Let go of that grudge, show some neibourly love Try to forget and forgive Everyone's dying of something Life has a limited span We're her for a good time, not for along time So live life as hard as you can Everyone's dying of something Other's have it better than some But it's how you live with what life gives That determines your place in the sun Everyone's dying of something Some folk are taken too soon We see their light in the stars out at night And their face in the man in the moon Everyone's dying of something It's madness to think that we're not But it's just a ride none of us will survive So make the most of the time you have got

How stupid do you think we are? Said the alcoholic at the bar That's quite a gesture that you've made, and I'll get you a pint when I get paid A penny off a pint of beer, well it all adds up throught the year Aren't we lucky you're in charge? Now my Wonga loan won't seem so large Yeah you try to trick the poor to think that you're on their side But what you give with the left you always you always take with the right It was the same last year when the budget came out And it'll be the same next year without a shadow of doubt And we're glad that Mr Shapps approves of gambling and rinking booze And we hope that next year's budget cuts will see mroe good news for the likes of us Oh we're just so glad you understand the working people of this land Can't wait to see where the next cut is - cheap jewlery or a bag of chips? Yeah you try to trick the poor to think that you're on their side But what you give with the left you always you always take with the right It was the same last year when the budget came out And it'll be the same next year without a shadow of doubt Yeah you try to trick the poor to think that you're on their side But what you give with the left you always you always take with the right It was the same last year when the budget came out And it'll be the same next year without a shadow of doubt Your benevolent generosity in no way patronises me Finally someone who knows that we don't need food and we don't need clothes Please cut the tax and duty to more things you posh folk think we do Keep us distracyed night and day and pick our pockets as we look away Yeah you try to trick the poor to think that you're on their side But what you give with the left you always you always take with the right It was the same last year when the budget came out And it'll be the same next year without a shadow of doubt

Maps 03:17
Yeah they show me where I'm going, they show me where I've been They show me possibilties of places I've not seen Sometimes they're difficult to read and they're always so hard to fold Sometimes they'll lead you nowhere, sometimes to buried gold Some folk like reading novels full of character and plot Some are unputdownable, others easily forgot Some read while commuting, others while in bed But I can't get on board with them, coz I like maps instead Some men read the paper to stay well in the know Broadsheets over breakfast, or tabloids on the go They may know more of politics, or world affairs, perhaps But I like the way the way the world looks when I look at it in maps Some people read poetry, those learned men of verse But there's no quantity of books can quench their literary thirst They'll perfectly articulate the world's rise and collapse But this old part time cartographile will make do with his maps O.S. are my favourite, the Explorer is the best Coz they're got way more detail in than any of the rest And I know it's strange for maps to hold such personal appeal Oh the storied are not up to much but the places seem so real Yeah they show me where I'm going, they show me where I've been They show me possibilities of places I've not seen Sometimes they're difficult to read and they're always so hard to fold Sometimes they'll lead you nowhere, sometimes to buried gold

I brought the rainbow and you brought the rain I play the same chords again and again Meadows all mashed up in bulldozer turf Some of us drowning while some of us surf Pulling it up, spreading it out in mud and rainbows Up to our necks in it mucking about in mud and rainbows You're on the bandstand and I'm in the tent You've still got cash left while mine's all been spent Your clothes are soaking and mine a re all dry You muct be joking but I don't know why Pulling it up, spreading it out in mud and rainbows Up to our necks in it mucking about in mud and rainbows

It's 9 oclock in the morning, I'm going down to Wetherspoons I'm gonna drink all of my money, and I'll be drunk by the afternoon I'm gonna meet my old army buddies, they'll be there from quarter to With their freshly withdrawn pensions, and nothing else to do I'm gonna sit in my favourite seat, the one by the real ale pumps I've tried all the ones they've got in, all the ones they've got in this month And I'll strike upa conversation with mayone who has the time And I'll listen to their storied if they'll listen to mine And at 10 the young drunks enter and I know just how they feel When they try to justify the drink with a £3 breakfast deal And like me they'll be here all day long, but they'll do it with far less class Get thown out in a violent flurry, but I'll leave after my last glass And at noon we get the lunch shift, office types thowing back a few Young mothers take a break from shopping, they bring the kids in, but what can you do? And it's all calm by 3:30, as my eyes begin to blur But I won on the fruity, so I'll stay for one more And as I look around this table I see my very best of friends Each one drowning memories, none can make amends And we;ll drink to fallen comrades and to woment hat we've loved And the last drink of the evneing we always drink to us See when you get to our age you start to measure time By the friends that you have buried and the few that get left behind And round this table us old "fogies", will put the world to rights So you young folk needn't worry, we've seen all the is, and so much more besides Yes it's 9 oclock in the morning, I'm going down to Wetherspoons I'm gonna drink all of my money, and I'll be drunk by the afternoon I'm gonna meet my old army buddies, they'll be there from quarter to With their freshly withdrawn pensions, and nothing else to do

Ode To Ozzy 03:04
We've been through so much together, travelled many a mile And you've taken me wherever I need to go, and you've taken me in style And I can see you're getting tired old friend, some things ain't working like they did But we'll fix the parts that we can mend and carry on to the next gig Coz you're my transport, you're my shelter, you're my confidant and friend You're home from home, my santuary, you're more than just a van to me My travelling companion to the end Some say that I should sell you, get something a bit more new But I don't need to tell you, that's not something I'd ever do They tell me that I'm thorwing, good money after bad But they've no way of knowing, about all the good times that we've had Coz you're my transport, you're my shelter, you're my confidant and friend You're home from home, my santuary, you're more than just a van to me My travelling companion to the end And I know sometimes that you will breakdown, and you know sometimes I will too And I aware of how this may sound, but you mend me when I mend you Coz you're my transport, you're my shelter, you're my confidant and friend You're home from home, my santuary, you're more than just a van to me My travelling companion to the end My travelling companion to the end

Three months on from my original prognosis Many pills were took and many tests were done With all the evidence combined the doctor changed his mind He said, "It's not type two you've got, it's type one I asked "in laymens terms where does this leave us?" He said, " it's pretty much the same place as before, Yeah you're still fairly ill, but it's injections now not pills, And you still can't drink cider anymore" No I can't drink coder anymore Well I can a bit, just the same amount as once before No I can't drink cider now it's true Oh what is west country boy to do I don't believe things happen for a reason They just happen and we do the best we can Like a scratch on a guitar, like a tattoo or a scar It's the war wounds tell the story of a man No I can't drink coder anymore I'd better knock it on the head at least until they find a cure No I can't drink cider now it's true Oh what is west country boy to do

Such a fine place to begin, the town that took me in I have fallen for every winding hilly street Although I've made this place my home, I've a tendancy to roam And the grass is growning tall around my feet That call I heard before from this city I adore Is calling once again for me to leave While my mind tells me to stay, my heart's already miles away And the grass is growing tall around around my feet Around my feet, around my feet, Oh the grass is growning tall around my feet So I'll pack up and I'll move on, head held high, heart frull of song For the grass is growning tall around my feet I will buy myself a boat and I will sail her down the coast Down to where the ocean glitters blue and green Strong in sail and tall in mast she will sail there true and fast For the grass is growing tall around my feet How I long to feel the breeze of the north atlantic seas Oh the salty air to me's forver sweet By a Cornish fishing town is where I'll put my anchor down For the grass is growning tall around my feet Around my feet, around my feet, Oh the grass is growning tall around my feet So I'll pack up and I'll move on, head held high, heart frull of song For the grass is growning tall around my feet If I ever settle down by that Cornish fishing town I will spend my days a-looking out to sea And on the harbour I will dwell on that north atlantic swell Where the grass can never grow around my feet Around my feet, around my feet, Oh the grass will never grown around my feet Heart full of song and head held high I will stay there til I die
